Our school community came together to observe a moment of silence in honour of those who lost their lives in conflict.
This solemn occasion was marked by a special assembly, created through the collaborative efforts of our students, staff, and learners from our trust. The assembly was designed to engage and educate, and was shown to the entire school community, ensuring that students understood the significance of this important event in our national calendar.
The programme aimed to bridge the generational gap for students, many of whom may feel disconnected from the events of the World Wars. By exploring the complexities of history and poetry linked to war, the assembly provided an age-appropriate and meaningful way for young people to grasp the importance of remembering those who sacrificed their lives.
A special thanks goes to the learning teams at both Preston Park and the Heugh Battery Museum, whose generous support allowed us to film key elements of this year’s broadcast at their locations. Their contribution made this year’s Remembrance Day observance even more impactful, helping our students connect with the past.
As we reflect on this significant day, we are reminded of the power of remembrance, the lessons we learn from history, and the importance of working together to ensure peace for future generations.
