Mathematics
We want every pupil to become a fluent, confident mathematician who can reason clearly and solve problems with resilience. Our curriculum is grounded in the National Curriculum and builds on the early number foundations laid in the EYFS. It is sequenced so that pupils develop deep understanding alongside quick, accurate recall of number facts and times tables, which are the building blocks for success in maths and beyond.
Daily maths lessons follow our OPTIC teaching model. Each lesson opens with a short task that revisits prior learning before new content is introduced, modelled and practised. Learning follows [our chosen scheme/long-term plan], ensuring clear progression within and across year groups.
Pupils move on to secondary school with secure number knowledge, the ability to explain their thinking and the confidence to tackle unfamiliar problems. Teachers check understanding throughout every lesson, and regular assessment ensures gaps are spotted early and addressed through timely intervention.
