Democracy Week is part of our curriculum work focussing on British Values, throughout the week pupilslearnt all about what it means to live in a democracy.
Some of the key enquiry questions for the week were:
- What is Democracy?
- Who can vote and how do we vote?
- Has everyone always been able to vote?
- What is Parliament and where is it?
- Who is in charge of the country and what role does King Charles play?
- What is the Magna Carta and why is still important today?
- What do MPs do and how do you become an MP?
In preparation for School Council elections, pupils made an identity card which enabled them to cast their votes on School Council election day.
On the election day, supported by exisiting members of our School Council and guided by Miss Dodsworth and Mrs Stonebanks, pupils voted for who they would like to represent them on our School Council next year.
Each candidate produiced a poster and a short information video to share thier thougts and ideas to persuade voters to vote for them.
The successful candidates were announced in our Demaocracy Week Assembly.
