Celebrating the Chinese New Year

January 28, 2025

A Fun-Filled Workshop for Parents, Carers, and Pupils

This week, Archibald Primary School was filled with excitement and creativity as Year 1 pupils invited their parents and carers to join them in a special Chinese New Year workshop. The event offered a wonderful opportunity for families to come together and learn about one of the most celebrated festivals in the world.
ย
The workshop focused on the rich traditions and cultural significance of Chinese New Year, which is celebrated by millions globally. Students, along with their loved ones, learned about the customs and symbols associated with the holiday, including the importance of the zodiac animals. This year, 2025, marks the Year of the Snakeโ€”a time symbolising wisdom, charm, and intuitive strength.
ย
The hands-on session allowed children and their families to get creative by making their own lanterns and snakes, two iconic symbols of Chinese New Year. The lanterns, often associated with bringing light and good fortune, were decorated with vibrant colours and patterns, while the snakesโ€”representing the animal for the year aheadโ€”were crafted with intricate designs and festive materials.
ย
Parents and carers joined in the fun, eagerly assisting their children with cutting, gluing, and painting, as everyone embraced the festive spirit. The atmosphere was buzzing with joy as families shared in the learning experience, creating lasting memories together.
ย
The event also served as an educational experience, fostering a deeper understanding of different cultures and the importance of traditions in bringing communities together. By involving both pupils and their families in the celebration, Archibald Primary School was able to strengthen its commitment to inclusivity and cultural awareness.
ย
With Chinese New Year just around the corner, this workshop was a perfect way to kick off the celebrations and welcome the Year of the Snake with joy, creativity, and community spirit. We look forward to continuing our cultural explorations throughout the year!
